The Sitting Elephant
One table, two unhurried cities.
The Name
They come at dusk,
to drink.
The restaurant did not choose its name from a book. From the rooftop in Rishikesh, you can watch elephants cross to the far bank of the Ganga to drink, unhurried, enormous, and ancient. That moment, repeated at dusk for as long as anyone can remember, is the whole story. We simply built a table beside it, and now a second one, in the hills above Mussoorie.

The Sitting Elephant Rishikesh
The original. A rooftop table above the Ganga, the elephants across the water, the aarti downstream, Uttarakhandi produce in the kitchen.
